Course Description

In this webinar Dr. Gruman will introduce you to positive psychology and its applications in the workplace. He will also discuss his newly published book entitled Boost: The Science of Recharging Yourself in an Age of Unrelenting Demands, which summarizes the research on how we can use our leisure time to most successfully recharge our batteries. He will present his ReNU model of effective recovery, and provide specific, actionable steps we can all take to promote our health, happiness, enhance our performance, and overcome the fatigue that plagues contemporary workplaces.

Jamie Gruman

Dr. Jamie Gruman is a Professor and Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Management at the University of Guelph. He is also the Founding Chair of the Canadian Positive Psychology Association, an organization whose mandate is to improve people's lives by teaching them about the science of the good life. Dr. Gruman is an award-winning researcher. He has published papers in some of the world's top-ranked business journals and is lead editor of the world's market-leading textbook on Applied Social Psychology. He is also the co-author of Boost: The Science of Recharging Yourself in an Age of Unrelenting Demands. His work on topics related to positive psychology has appeared in academic journals such as Canadian Psychology, Human Resource Management Review, and Industrial and Organizational Psychology, in addition to books such as The Handbook of Employee Engagement, Advances in Positive Organizational Psychology, and The Cambridge Handbook of Workplace Training and Employee Development. His research and writing have been reported by media outlets around the globe such the Deccan Chronicle in India, 36KR in China, and the Khaleej Times in Dubai. In the United States he has appeared in Time magazine, NBC News, Oprah Magazine, Inc Magazine, and Fast Company, among other outlets. In Canada he has been featured and quoted across the country in print and online in magazines such as MoneySense, Canadian Business, and Chatelaine, trade journals such as HR Professional, Canadian HR Reporter, and Public Sector Digest, and newspapers in every major Canadian city. He has also appeared on CTV's Canada AM, Global News, Report on Business Television, CBC's The National, and has been syndicated on CBC radio. In addition to speaking at numerous conferences, including those of the Conference Board of Canada, and TEDx, Dr. Gruman has consulted and delivered seminars for Fortune 500 corporations, public, and not-for-profit organizations including General Motors, Departments and Agencies of the Government of Canada, and the Children's Wish Foundation.
