Course Description

This presentation focuses on:

Occupational stress and burnout among healthcare providers (HCP) is a significant occupational public health issue. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated matters placed increased the demands on HCP time yet the resources that support them are diminishing. The presentation will provide an overview of workplace mental health risk factors associated with occupational stress and burnout among HCP. Moreover, offering strategies and solutions to mitigate against deleterious mental health outcomes.

Behdin Nowrouzi-Kia

Behdin Nowrouzi-Kia, is an occupational therapist and assistant professor in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy where he holds the Emily Geldsaler Grant Early Career Professorship in Workplace Mental Health. Dr. Nowrouzi-Kia's research program is a systematic study of occupations in the areas of work disability prevention, return to work, and disability management. This approach is designed to produce results directly applicable to identify and assess risk and to develop interventions for preventing/improving and optimizing functioning in the workplace. His work uses a biopsychosocial perspective to understand work disability and incorporate personal characteristics and environmental factors in improving health outcomes.
