Course Description

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an innovative treatment approach that has been successfully applied to a number of conditions, including chronic pain. A step-by-step overview for delivering the 8-session MBCT program will be provided. Mindfulness meditation will be interactively taught via didactic and experiential exercises for both clinical application, and as a tool for therapist self-care and to optimise quality of life. Recently completed, on-going, and future research directions associated with MBCT for chronic pain will be discussed.

You will learn:

  • The basic tenants of MBCT for chronic pain theory;
  • An overview of the MBCT for chronic pain efficacy and mechanism evidence;
  • The basics of how to administer a group-based MBCT intervention for people with chronic pain; and,
  • How to use mindfulness as a self-care tool.
