Course Description
Dr. Anne Foreman will discuss why dogs are increasingly found in work environments and review the potential health benefits, as well as the health and safety risks, that accompany them. This presentation will outline the potential benefits and challenges of dogs in workplace settings. Dogs that may be present in work environments include service dogs, therapy dogs, and visitation dogs. The roles that they typically perform will be described, and a brief review of the legal requirements for their presence in the workplace in the United States and Canada will be outlined. The potential hazards and risks that are introduced along with dogs will be reviewed, and strategies for addressing these hazards and risks will be discussed.
