Course Description

This course provides an overview of the best practices of disability management and serves as an introduction to what a fulsome and productive disability management program looks like in an organization.

By the end of this course, you’ll have the foundations you need to begin developing and using best practices in the workplace including resources and approaches. You can use this to improve your existing practices or as the starting point for developing a disability management system.

Audience:

This program is designed for leaders, managers and employers who want to enhance their disability management systems. Disability management isn’t just for large entities - everyone can benefit.

What You’ll Learn:

Throughout this course, you’ll learn about the basics of disability understanding, disability management, and the benefits of implementing effective disability management systems at work. You’ll take a look at your own company practices to identify opportunities for improvement.

One of the most important aspects of disability management (DM) is taking a systems approach. We’ll talk about the best practices for disability management and how to actually go from knowing what to do to beginning to take action. This includes thought work and research about things such as accommodation and Return To Work (RTW).

Finally, along the way, you’ll engage in activities to apply what you learn to your own organization and to come up with changes that you can bring back and start putting into place.

It’s essential for employers to practice disability management so that they can be compliant with the law while also promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace and managing work disability in ways that benefit all stakeholders to the degree possible.

This course is focused on giving you a foundational approach to work from, along with practical strategies to implement or improve your disability management practice, even if you don’t have one yet. Our intent is to provide simple, effective, and easy-to-follow steps and actions that help you. And because of the practical nature of this course, you’ll walk away with more than just information: you’ll have the beginning practical strategies to put into action.

Course structure:

Information in this course is presented through facilitation videos of Tara Beaton. In these videos, she explains key concepts and provides opportunities to reflect on your learning and encourages action steps to implement your learning in your organization.

This course is intended to take approximately 1.5 - 3 hours to complete. It is separated into modules and your progress is automatically saved, so feel free to complete at your own pace.
