Course Description

In this course we will introduce the concept of intersectionality and overlapping identities as they relate to workplace mental health. We will review the complex challenges of integrating intersectionality into workplace mental health research, and initiatives.

Learning Outcomes

Vicki Kristman, PhD

Dr. Vicki Kristman is a Professor in the Department of Health Sciences and Director and Senior Scientist of the EPID@Work Research Institute at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. She holds a Lakehead University-Ontario Research Chair in Injury & Disability Prevention. She conducts research to better understand factors associated with health, particularly mental health, and disability in the workplace to develop and test interventions to improve the lives of workers.

Kara Polson

With a research interest in understanding the psychosocial factors that may impact our health, Kara is interested in furthering the scientific and public understanding how we can utilize the workplace to improve mental health outcomes. She has recently completed her masters in Health Sciences with a specialization in Epidemiology. As a current PhD student with The EPD @ Work Research Institute, Lakehead University Department of Health Sciences, Kara continues to explore the implications of working remotely from home as it relates to mental health outcomes.
