Course Description
This Presentation will focus on: Description of endometriosis, accompanying healthcare statistics. Stereotypes and stigma associated with disability and gender in the workplace, experiences of women professionals with disabilities. Up-to-date research outlining the workplace experiences of women with endometriosis. Importance of addressing these challenges through education/awareness and changes to organizational practices/policies.

PhD candidate
Marlee Mercer
Marlee Mercer is a PhD candidate in the Human Resource Management (HRM) department at York University. Her dissertation focuses on abusive supervision, identity work, and their impacts on employee motivation and goal-setting. Her research also explores women’s health in the workplace, with a particular focus on endometriosis, as well as strategic HR practices. She brings extensive experience as an HR generalist across industries including manufacturing, banking, private equity, and infrastructure and is a consultant specializing in compensation strategies. She has taught HRM courses at multiple post-secondary institutions and has co-authored and edited several HR and compensation textbooks. Alongside her co-author Tina Sharifi, she won the Best Doctoral Paper award for their research on endometriosis in the workplace.

PhD candidate
Tina Sharifi
Tina Sharifi is a PhD candidate in the Human Resource Management (HRM) department at York University. Her research focuses on intersectionality in women’s leadership, authenticity, calling, and the human-animal bond, topics she has presented and published at numerous national and international academic conferences. Her dissertation examines the authentic leadership practices of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) women entrepreneurs who view their work as a calling. She brings over nine years of professional and consulting experience in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Talent Acquisition, in addition to teaching a variety of HRM courses at the post-secondary level. Together with her co-author Marlee Mercer, she received the Best Doctoral Paper award for their research on endometriosis in the workplace.
