Thank you for choosing to take Course 20 in the Inclusion Works: Transformative Recruitment Practices certificate. These courses are for professionals looking to enhance workplace inclusivity and productivity through their recruitment practices. Understanding the nuances of disability management enables professionals to effectively support employees with disabilities, leading to a more diverse and engaged workforce. Additionally, hiring people with disabilities fosters a more inclusive workplace culture and brings unique perspectives and talents, enriching teams and driving innovation and success.

This course focuses on :

Overview of Open Door Group’s Vocational & Wellness services. PSR’s contribution to developing services to support an individual’s recovery, community connection, and employment. Gardengate Services: How horticulture is used as a therapeutic tool for those with mental health challenges and addiction.


Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the vocational, recreational, and therapeutic services offered by Open Door Group, including how Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR), Gardengate's horticulture therapy, and Thrive's recreational programs promote recovery, confidence, and social integration for individuals with mental health and addiction challenges. 
  • Recognize the role of inclusive Vocational Services in providing customized employment solutions, helping individuals with disabilities leverage their strengths for meaningful job opportunities.

Open Door Group

Christine Buchanan is the Director of Vocational and Wellness at Open Door Group. Under her guidance, the organization has expanded its reach, offering free employment and training services across 18 locations in British Columbia. Her strategic efforts have significantly increased the number of individuals served, surpassing 5,000 annually. Currently, she serves as the Chair of the Technical Committee on the Employment Accessibility Standard in BC, where she is actively collaborating to develop recommendations for ground-breaking employment accessibility standards. Radka Prihodova, Program Coordinator/ Rehabilitation and Wellness Manager at Open Door Group Thrive, bringing a decade of experience in the mental health field. Alongside her management role, Radka is collaborating with Douglas College as a co-investigator on a research project assessing the impact of therapeutic recreation interventions on employment preparedness. Radka holds a master’s degree in Adaptive Physical Education from Charles University in the Czech Republic and a bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Douglas College. Vicki Park is the Vocational Services Senior Manager at Open Door Group with over 19 years of experience in both public and private sector career services. With a master’s degree and extensive training in psychology, she has worked with clients facing mental health challenges and diverse needs. Additionally, she has developed career programs, coaching manuals and standardized assessments, as well as delivered professional training for those in education and human services. Robert Wright Graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley with a Human Services Diploma and began working with children, youth and families. Since moving to Kamloops, BC he has worked with the Open Door Group in the Gardengate program.
